琉球石灰岩／沖縄本島・那覇南部産／今から数万年から数十万年前に発達したサンゴ礁が発生の起源。黒潮の影響などでサンゴ礁が発達、堆積して琉球石灰岩の層が出来上がる。年代的には新生代第四紀更新世。地殻変動や海水面のレベルの変化を通じて、沖縄周辺のいろいろなところにあり、地上高く出ているものもあれば水深80ｍくらいのところにあったりもする。サンゴの骨格や有孔虫、石灰藻、貝、ウニなど石灰質の殻をもった生き物たちが積層してできた堆積岩。そのためにいろいろな生き物の化石も含まれることがある。

Ryukyu limestone / Produced in the southern part of Naha, Okinawa / Originated from coral reefs that developed tens to hundreds of thousands of years ago. Coral reefs developed and accumulated due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current, forming layers of Ryukyu limestone. It dates back to the Quaternary Pleistocene of the Cenozoic Era. Through crustal movements and changes in sea level, they can be found in various places around Okinawa, some of which are high above ground and some of which are about 80 meters deep. It is a sedimentary rock formed by the layering of organisms with calcareous shells, such as coral skeletons, foraminifera, calcareous algae, shellfish, and sea urchins. As a result, it can also contain fossils of various organisms.
